William C. Rohde, 75, of Larsen and formerly of Wisconsin Rapids died Friday evening, Sept. 7, 2007, at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton with his family by his side.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Higgins Funeral Home. The Rev. Clarence Harnes will officiate. Burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery.

William was born March 20, 1932, in Glens Falls, N.Y., the son of Goddard and Eva (Quinnell) Rohde. A 1950 graduate of Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids, he married Dallace Edwards on July 2, 1955. She died Sept. 26, 2000.

Bill served as city surveyor of Wisconsin Rapids from 1963 to 1973, Wood County surveyor from 1974 to 1984 and as a Wisconsin state surveyor until retirement in 1996. He was an active member of the Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors, serving as president in 1972 and also as secretary of its foundation. The author and lecturer of several technical and historical papers, he continued his surveying career as a consultant until his death.

He served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard from 1949 to 1972 and was commanding officer of Battery B at Stevens Point and Headquarters Battery at Wisconsin Rapids of the 120th Field Artillery Battalion, retiring as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Survivors include his son, Mark (Elizabeth), and granddaughters Melissa and Charissa of Carver, Mass.; his daughter, Dawn (Joe) Zeinert of Hortonville; and sister Yvonne Vanderhei of Wisconsin Rapids.

His wife, Dallace, and parents preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at Higgins Funeral Home.
