Susan E. Sweeney, 62, 1231 Irving St., Wisconsin Rapids, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home, Port Edwards.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. The Rev. George Nelson Graham will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Sue was born April 30, 1946, in Wisconsin Rapids to Stanley and Myrtle (Rayome) Sweeney.
Though she never married and had children of her own, she was part of the lives of many children and families during her 38 years as a teacher at Grove Elementary School. In 1990, she was honored as the Wisconsin Rapids Public School District Elementary Teacher of the Year.
She belonged to the Wisconsin Rapids Area Retired Educators Association of the Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools District and was very active in St. Lawrence Catholic Church parish, where she held various offices on councils and organizations, as well as being a member of the PCCW.
Sue is survived by one sister, Mary (Bruce) Thill, of Arlington Heights, Ill.; one nephew, Michael (Betty) Thill and son, Charlie, Arlington Heights, Ill.; two nieces, Janette (Patrick) Forman and children, Emma, Kevin and Sean, of Palatine, Ill.; and Trisha (Mark) Speakman, also of Palatine.
She was predeceased by her parents.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 30, at Higgins Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. After the parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sue wanted a time for people to share their stories, thoughts and memories. At Sue's request, a light lunch and refreshments will be provided at the funeral home for all visitors Friday.
She will be deeply missed by her former students and families and many friends.
