View this Videotribute Paul Edward Grossbier, 68, of 6830 Bambi Lane, Wisconsin Rapids, passed away at 1:14 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, with his family by his side. Paul was born on April 28, 1939, in Auburndale, to Anna (Dillinger) and Edward Grossbier. He married Bonita Thiele on Aug. 20, 1966, at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church. The marriage ended in divorce. Paul married Mary Arneson on Sept. 3, 1988. He was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving from 1962 to 1964, as an artillery radio mechanic in the 57th Artillery at Fort Bliss, Texas. He worked for Consolidated Papers Inc. for 43 years, retiring in 2000 as supercalender and rewinder supervisor for the Wisconsin Rapids division. Paul is survived by his wife, Mary; three children, Gregory (significant other, Machelle Anderson), and Rochelle Lambert, both of Wisconsin Rapids, and Dustin of Stevens Point; two stepsons, Gary (Christina) Buckingham of Wisconsin Rapids, and Jerry Buckingham (significant other, Nina Contraras) of Plover; four sisters, Sister Marian Grossbier, Villa St. Joseph of La Crosse, Irene "Renee" Lorbiecki of New Berlin, and Virginia "Jeannie" (Charles) Ponczak, and Helen (Orville) Bornbach, both of Stratford; two sisters-in-law, Mary Grossbier of New Berlin, and Florence Grossbier of Milwaukee; a brother-in-law, William (Eileen) Scholzen; seven grandchildren, Harrison and Josephine Lambert; Erial (Kevin) Summerfeldt; Ashley, Hailey, and Kendall Buckingham; and Selena Contraras; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Austin Summerfeldt; and 28 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alexander, Aloysius, and Peter Grossbier; and a sister, Theresa Scholzen. Paul enjoyed spending time outdoors, including playing golf, hunting, and fishing. He spent hours in his garage working on motors of every kind, and loved to play blackjack. His quirky smile and great sense of humor will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services for Paul will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids. The Rev. William Menzel will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 16 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with a combined Knights of Columbus and parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation also will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. American Legion Post No. 9 military rites will follow services at the church.
