Kenneth E. Walker, 80, of 731 Clyde Ave., Wisconsin Rapids, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home, Port Edwards, with his family by his side.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Higgins Funeral Home, Wisconsin Rapids. The Rev. William Menzel will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery with military rites provided by VFW Post No. 2534. Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Ken was born April 7, 1928, to Milo and Edith (Phillips) Walker. He married Lois Britz on June 11, 1955, in Wisconsin Rapids.
He served in the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1953, with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He worked at Consolidated Papers Inc. from 1943 until he retired in 1990.
He loved gardening, fishing, especially at Algoma for salmon, woodworking, and many other hobbies. His passion in life was playing the accordion and saxophone. He played with the Ron K-Zoo Band for many years enjoying a variety of music, especially polka music.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; three sons, Jerry (very special friend, Sue Narancich), Glen, and Brian (Beverly); and one daughter, Julie (John) Bowling, all of Wisconsin Rapids; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, LaVern Sr. (Della) of Wisconsin Rapids; one sister-in-law, Jean Walker of Wisconsin Rapids; and one brother-in-law, William Sersch of Wisconsin Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Allen; and one sister, Virginia Sersch.
Dad was our "Hero." Any man who could have the patience, care, and love for his wife and children deserves the title "Hero." We love you Dad
