Joseph N. Stelzer, 89, of 531 Griffith Ave., Wisconsin Rapids, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 28, 2007, in Wisconsin Rapids.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. William Menzel will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Joseph was born Aug. 5, 1918, in the Portage County town of Carson, to Matthew and Anna (Hoogland) Stelzer. He married Genevieve (Van De Loop) on Sept. 1, 1937, in Rudolph. She died Jan. 15, 2001.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was employed as a superintendent in the finishing department at the Port Edwards paper mill.
Joseph loved golfing, camping, hunting, fishing, traveling and woodworking. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his children, Jeanne (Doug) Peterson of Burlington Flats, N.Y., Judy (Rhody) Hoerter of Glendale, Larry (Judy), of Wisconsin Rapids, Kathy Wolfe of Wisconsin Rapids, Delores (Gary) Majkowski of Appleton, David (Kelli) of Wisconsin Rapids, Linda (Gerald) Bruesewitz of Ladysmith, Michael (Patty) of Denver, N.C., Jerome (Debbie) of Wisconsin Rapids, Joseph (Camille) of Colfax, Terry (Diane) of Wisconsin Rapids, Mary Beth (Terry) Tomsyck of Stevens Point, and Lori (Dave) Schegel of Janesville; 34 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and three sisters.
Visitation will be at Higgins Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids at 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday.
